How can I find out more information about Scuba 2?

Use the information on the Contacts page to contact us, or come along to the next Club Meeting.

How do I join the Club?
The easiest way is to come along to a Club Meeting and arrange joining with the Membership Officer.

Do I need to be a qualified Scuba Diver to join Scuba 2?
No - the Club welcomes anyone with similar interests and ideals.  We already have several 'social' non-diving members.  However if you want to Scuba dive - you must be qualified.

Does Scuba 2 provide diving instruction?
No. Scuba 2 does not provide instruction but does support the on-going development of individuals' diving skills and knowledge.

I've just got my open water ticket and I need diving experience.  Is Scuba 2 suitable for me?
Yes - Definitely!  That's one of the Club's main purposes.

I'm visiting from overseas and want to get involved short-term.  Is that OK?
Yes.  As long as you've got a spare bed in your home country!

Does Scuba 2 encourage spear fishing?
No.  Spear fishing is not permitted on Club dives and taking of crayfish is discouraged.  We shoot fish with cameras only.  Dive boat operators take us to special sites if they know the fish are safe.

What about sharks?
Sharks are rare and beautiful.  If you're worried about the level of risk from shark attack, see Squalophobia.

Can I come along and see what the Club's like without joining?

Yes.  Anyone interested in the Club is welcome to come along and participate in Club events as a non-member.  However the Club will charge a bit more at some events for non-members.  There is no fixed trial period.

How much does membership cost?
Visit the Membership page for the current membership fees.

What sort of diving qualifications do I need?
To dive you need a basic open water scuba diver's qualification.  Courses are offered by commercial dive shops.

Can you recommend a Dive Shop?
Officially not.  Scuba 2 is non-affiliated and has no commercial links with any dive store or organisation.  However individuals within the Club will have advice to offer on the pros & cons of certain dive shops and organisations.  Links to some dive shops are provided on our Friends page - see above.

I'm qualified by PADI/SSI/BSAC/Or some other organisation. Can I join?
Yes.  As long as it's a recognised organisation we're happy.

Does Scuba 2 cater for experienced divers?
We're not into highly technical diving such as pot-holing or cave/cavern diving.   This is a recreational scuba dive club after all!  But Scuba 2 dive events cater for a range of experience levels.  We have some divers who use Nitrox, some experienced photographers, some marine biologists, a whole raft of keen night divers, wreck divers and deep divers.

Can I hire Scuba equipment from the Club?
No. Because of legal liability issues, the Club is not able to provide scuba equipment. You will need to hire gear from a dive shop.

I get seasick - should I dive?
Hmmmm....  There are lots of techniques for reducing susceptibility to motion sickness. One very successful method is to stick to shore dives only - but that would severely restrict your diving.  We've all been sick, so don't let it stop you trying. See our 'Useful Information' section.
